As can be seen in the screen shots the main institution for TV-news in Germany, the Tagesschau, despite their enormous financial possibilities and own large excellent educated staff more and more uses Google Earth as it comes to graphical support of reports. Latest example is the coverage of the plane-crash in Sao Paulo. The screen shots are taken from the afternoon-edition (17.00 CET) which can be watched for free on the Tagesschau-webpage.

The events of Sao Paulo as well do contain a certain irony as not only the affected plane belongs to the brasilian airline TAM

… but also the destroyed building.

There are quite a bunch of bloggers these days who try to earn money with blogging about how they earn money with blogging about how they earn money with blogging about… and so on. It is a pitty that most of them don`t really manage to develop a big creativity concerning their domain-names as well as their main topics.

But within those sea of money-bloggers one has right at the first moment caught my attention. How? Was it the design of his page? No. Was it the content? Not really. So what was it? Answer: The name. Because his name is “Desi Baba” and in Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian language (subjects of my studies) this can be understood as “Gde si ti, Baba?” This can be translated as something like “Where are you, Granny?” which could be used in the context of “How are you, Granny?”

But I have been as well a little naive as I was thinking how his name in Indian for sure has a totaly great and philosophic meaning like “Flower in the sunset”, “Bird flying over meadows” or “Trust and Confidence”. As it is mostly in German that first names have a more sensitive meaning (often taken from the bible) while last names refer to places people`s ancestors have come from or their professions.

Ok, but back to “Desi Baba”. All my estimations about the background of his name in the end seemed a little absurd to myself when I read the “About me” area of his blog. There is to be read that “Desi” who currently studies in the States has family roots to Bangladesh and his real name is Azmi. “Desi Baba” is just his fun-nickname and the meaning in the Indian languages is nothing different than “pimp daddy”.

By the way, Everyone who is interested in “Blogging, Technology and Making Money in the Internet” should really take a look at “Blogging with Desi Baba”.

On the website of the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (State television and radio of Nothern Germany) visitors may watch for free “Head-On” (Original title “Gegen die Wand”) by german-turkish film director Fatih Akin (Interview 2005). Just go here and click on the face of the woman.

Informations about the plot can be found here at IMDB or here at the english Wikipedia. The movie is only to be seen in german and turkish language, but with the help of the subtitles, that can be downloaded on several places in the net (For example here), it should be also possible for foreigners to get the point. In fact the power and energy that has made this movie winning several awards does not only come from the dialogues but as well from the pictures, the music and the atmosphere in general. A couple of scenes take place at my favorite areas in Hamburg like Altona - were I also live today - and the worldwide known Reeperbahn.

The movie gives an inside view on the conflict between traditional conservative and modern ways of life within migrant families. Director Fatih Akin who carries both the turkish and the german culture within himself plays an important role in the reduction of prejudices and creation of understanding for the situation of Turks in Germany, which is badly needed as with more than 2 million Turks are the by far biggest group of people with foreign background in this country.

This photo of a manipulated streetsign in the “Große Bergstraße” (in English “Big Mountainstreet”) may serve us as example that everything in life is a question of perspective. Seen in Altona, a district in the center of Hamburg, Germany.
